Sport AT South Moreton
At South Moreton, we encourage children to try new activities, to perform tactically and creatively and participate to the best of their abilities. We support children to enjoy the effects of being physically active. We teach children the value of exercise for health, well being and enjoyment, alongside encouraging enthusiasm, determination and good sportsmanship.
Core PE Provision
Twice-weekly Physical Education (PE) lessons take place within the class timetable, covering the full PE curriculum. Children are taught to develop their skills within a range of sports, including creative development through gymnastics and dance.
ELITE COACHING
In addition to this, every class takes part in a full day of Elite Coaching each half term. These sessions are carefully structured, developing skills, tactics and game knowledge in the mornings, and transferring these skills into match play in the afternoons. Our Elite Coaching means we offer double the PE provision of a typical Primary School each half term, and children are well-equipped with skills across a range of competitive sports.
Extra Curricular
We run a weekly, supervised lunchtime sports club, and also a weekly after-school club, giving children the opportunity to delve deeper into skills, techniques and match play, and to push themselves further in their sport.
FACILITIES
Facilities are excellent to provide these high quality lessons, with a well equipped Sports Hall, well-marked playground and extensive playing field. Pupils also make use of our extensive grounds throughout the school day, with active learning taking place across the curriculum.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
We often run additional activity days and workshops which are supported by external teachers and coaches. Our most recent workshop, Capoeira, taught new skills alongside cultural understanding of the martial art.
South Moreton participates in Sports tournaments across the local area. Children in Key Stage 2 swim in the Spring and Summer Terms at a local pool.
Many of our pupils are inspired to further develop their talents in Extra-Curricular clubs provided by the school, or clubs in the local community, competing at county level.
Extra Curricular Provision
South Moreton offers a variety of extra curricular clubs, which change according to the season and to ensure a wide variety of opportunities. We run over 30 clubs per year! Examples of clubs we have run across the year are netball, football, benchball, rounders, cricket, multi-skills, archery, athletics, badminton, tennis.
